Samir Rifai is a Jordanian economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Jordan from 2009 to 2011. He was born on January 1, 1966, in Amman, Jordan, and has a degree in economics from the University of Jordan and a master's degree in finance from the University of Pennsylvania. Rifai worked in the private sector before joining the Jordanian government in 1994. He held various positions in the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation before becoming Prime Minister in 2009. As Prime Minister, Rifai implemented economic and structural reforms to help the Jordanian economy weather the global financial crisis. He resigned in 2011 following protests in Jordan over rising fuel prices. Rifai is currently a member of the board of directors of the Arab Bank and the chairperson of the Jordan Economic Forum.
